Learning a language at a communicative level requires regular exposure. Homework is a strategic element of the method which allows us to intensify children’s exposure to English. The tasks are designed to produce results while requiring the least amount of time and effort from the child.

While any opportunity to learn a language is beneficial for a child, the best results are achieved by attending regular classes at a language school that uses tried and tested methods such as Savvy Ed. Learning a foreign language is a complex process that requires the use of carefully designed methods, teaching techniques and materials that are appropriate for this age group. It also requires suitably qualified teaching staff and constant monitoring of the quality of teaching. Edu Bears provides ongoing methodological support to its accredited centres to ensure that all these criteria are met.

The material included in the Savvy Ed method covers levels A0-A2 (according to Common European Framework established by the Council of Europe) and is compatible with the Cambridge English Qualifications for Young Learners exams.
The availability of opportunities for children to take the examinations depends on the approach of the individual Accredited Savvy Ed Method Centres. We do believe that if children can clearly see their progress as they pass a series of exams, they become more self-confident and motivated to keep learning, but the exams are not a compulsory part of the course.

Savvy Quest is not a typical educational app intended for entertainment, but an integral part of the course. It is designed to be used alongside the Snowball Book and includes additional compulsory homework. When used on a regular basis, it helps develop full communicative competence and confidence.

Homework assignments in the Snowball Book workbook and online in the Savvy Quest app are given regularly after each class, and both are an equally important component of the method. Completion is monitored by the teacher and forms part of the credit system for progression to the next course level.

The Savvy Ed method uses a progress evaluation system based on elements of formative assessment. We have clear and transparent grading criteria for each activity, which are always communicated to children and parents BEFORE a quiz, test or other assignment so that students know what is expected of them.
As the purpose of our performance evaluation system is to highlight what the child has learnt, rather than to point out mistakes, the only grade we give for a pass is an A – the highest grade in the English grading system.

The Savvy Ed method is designed for children who are continuing their language learning after attending a preschool course. Taking into account the level of competence and the learning objectives, correct group placement is essential for effective teaching. If we want the learning process to be enjoyable and successful for the child, there can be no half measures, no shortcuts and no bending of eligibility criteria.

The Savvy Ed 1A and 1B levels each cover half the material of the Savvy Ed 1 level over a period of one year. This means that there is less content to be covered in the 45 minute lesson units, which is perfect if we want to give Savvy Ed 1A and 1B students the time to improve their English reading and speaking skills at an optimal pace.

The range of vocabulary and grammatical structures taught in Savvy Ed courses goes beyond the standard school curriculum. There is also a strong focus on communicative competence, as both the teacher and the students speak only English in class. The Savvy Ed method is not designed to simply prepare students for exams, but to ensure the balanced development of all the language skills.

One of the basic principles of the Savvy Ed method is the so-called Snowball Effect – we teach new material by building on what has already been learnt and gradually adding new skills. We also use neuroscience-based learning strategies, including the belief that frequent and regular revision is a key factor in effective learning.
