Savvy Ed is a follow-up method of learning English in a supportive atmosphere with the help of an inspiring central character – a globetrotting bear.
Savvy Ed is a challenging programme based on the principles of modern teaching methodology. The course is designed to enable children to achieve a level of language proficiency that far exceeds the standard for their age group.
Learning takes place in a fun and relaxed atmosphere, with language games and activities tailored to meet the young learners’ need for movement. All the language skills are developed systematically, with particular emphasis on communication.
Based on the principle of the flipped classroom, our unique system of introducing and consolidating material draws on the latest developments in teaching methodology.
The course uses carefully structured material, with a gradual build-up of content and skills accompanied by frequent revision to make learning more effective.
The combination of extrinsic and intrinsic motivation increases student engagement, fosters independence and supports development.
Using elements of formative assessment, we have designed our grading system to recognise and appreciate students’ progress and build their self-esteem.
Savvy Ed is a method designed for primary school children. Language games and activities are aligned with the children’s development and the gradual progression of their reading, writing and grammar skills. Teaching English with communication exercises, well-crafted stories and grammar rhymes while immersing the kids in a vocabulary-rich learning environment makes for an enjoyable experience, satisfies their need for physical activity in class and helps them to effortlessly absorb demanding educational content.
We know that there is enormous linguistic potential in our students, and we help them to make the most of it.
A clever bear who travels the world, inspiring children’s cognitive curiosity and motivating them to learn.
Savvy Ed classes are taught in small groups and combine challenging learning objectives with fun language activities.
We ensure the balanced development of all the language skills, with a strong focus on communication!
With our dedicated homework app, children can effectively consolidate new material and enjoy completing their assignments.
Savvy Ed is a licensed method of teaching English to primary school children. Our aim is to combine ambitious educational requirements focused on developing the students’ communicative competence with a fun, relaxed classroom environment.
Savvy Ed classes are full of carefully designed activities that facilitate comprehensive language development and help students to build intrinsic motivation for language learning – all under the guidance of the course’s central character, our smart travelling bear, and the supervision of a committed teacher.
Savvy Ed students are given access to the Savvy Quest educational app. Using the app, they can do their homework in a fun and innovative way, revise and consolidate the material learnt in class, and play all the class recordings, which fosters the children’s immersion in English.
Much more than just an add-on to the course, the app is a carefully designed, integral part of the programme. Regular use of the app makes classroom activities more effective, enabling learners to develop greater communicative competence, fluency and confidence.

Given the volume of language input and the pace at which material is covered in class, Savvy Ed is recommended for children who have previously attended Teddy Eddie or another strong English course. Please note that methodology consultants at the Accredited Savvy Ed Method Centres carry out placement tests designed to help allocate new students to suitable groups.
Taking into account each child’s individual rate of development and their previous experience of learning English, a methodology consultant at an Accredited Method Centre may qualify a student for the two-year Savvy Ed 1 programme (covering Savvy Ed levels 1A and 1B). The basis for this decision is that it will be in the best interests of the child, who will find it easier to assimilate the material covered in Savvy Ed 1 over two years while maintaining a high level of motivation. The material covered in the two-year Savvy Ed 1 programme is exactly the same as that taught in the one-year course; however, during the two-year course, the teacher has the opportunity to include more exercises to consolidate and revise the knowledge acquired by the students.
At each level of the Savvy Ed method, teachers conduct two written tests per year, which are designed to evaluate and consolidate students’ knowledge. There are also several oral tests throughout the course. Children often do not even know that they have taken one of these tests, as many of them are done by playing games.
The method authors recommend that Savvy Ed students take the Cambridge Young Learners international language examinations. This gives parents the confidence that their children’s knowledge will be verified by a recognised institution and their learning outcomes validated by an independent third party. What is more, we find that if children can clearly see their progress as they pass a series of exams, they become more self-confident and motivated to keep learning. The availability of opportunities for children to take the examinations depends on the approach of individual Accredited Savvy Ed Method Centres.
Homework assignments are an essential part of the course. They are given by teachers on a regular basis, both in the Snowball Book and in the Savvy Quest app, and are designed to consolidate and repeat what has been learnt in class. By systematically working at home, children can advance easily to the next course levels. We do not recommend “working” with children at home. All our students should be able to do their homework on their own, and if they are not, this is important feedback for the teacher. We do, however, expect parents to help “keep an eye” on their children as they often forget to complete their assignments and then backlogs can become problematic.
The range of vocabulary and grammatical structures taught in Savvy Ed courses goes beyond the standard school curriculum. There is also a strong focus on communicative competence, as both the teacher and the students speak only English in class. In Savvy Ed courses, priority is given to practising all the language skills in an unconventional way – we want to demonstrate that learning English is more than just completing repetitive exercises in textbooks. Parents should be aware that at school there is often not enough time in foreign language classes to address all the areas mentioned above.
